Event in a Nutshell
DPL Production Lighting were once again contracted to manage the lighting and sound for the West Holts stage at Glastonbury 2014. West Holts is known as the Glastonbury stage for those who love bass – from Afro grooved to hip hop, reggae to techno – the acts who feature on the West Holts stage are those who thrive on live shows and DPL Production Lighting ensure their performances are supported by imaginative and dramatic lighting effects.
Before the Crowds Arrive
With hundreds of contractors on site preparing for the Glastonbury Festival the DPL Production Lighting team had ensured that they were ready to start setting up the West Holts stage as soon as they arrived on site. To ensure that their concert lighting and sound equipment was installed correctly the DPL team conducted rigorous testing before the festival began. “Glastonbury is legendary and we love being a part of such a reknowned event,” says Darren Parker, Managing Director, DPL Production Lighting. “We plan the event with precision each year and are able to showcase both our contemporary equipment and unique concert lighting techniques to an international audience who love the event as much as we do.”
With 23 different acts to cater for DPL Production Lighting produced a visual feast of colour and drama to support both up and coming bands through to legends such as Bryan Ferry and superstars like Disclosure.
“We managed to recover from a lighting strike and kept the show going during the inevitable torrential downpours,” reports Darren. “The acts were all really impressed with our high level of service and the crowd, well, they loved everything. Looking forward to Glastonbury 2015 already!”
“Hi Darren, Just thought I’d drop you a note. I was lucky enough to catch a big chunk of the Disclosure show on West Holts. The stage looked awesome. Great job all round. I know they brought a bunch of their own floor package, but you guys put together a magnificent show. Stage look was matched by excellent audio all the way to the back. Nice.” Tim Roberts, Director, The Event Safety Shop Ltd
“WOW… Well done everybody. We’ve been tested hard this weekend: more people, bigger shows, major league blaggers, mud (of course), artics and coaches by the pad-full; oh and thunder, lightening, rain, sunshine, dust and compost toilets. And you know what? You were brilliant. We have thrown an incredible party with fantastic music and huge crowds of happy people – even in the rain.
I watched some of Disclosure from the platform in backstage camping and I felt really proud. You made it work. Thank you for being part of the West Holts family and for all your hard and inspired work.
You MUST pass on my thanks to all your team members – they have been wonderful. We literally couldn’t have done it without their commitment.”Derek Dodd, Stage Director, Glastonbury Festival’s World Music.
